Presque Perdre (Presky or Mr P or P Man to his friends) is a 14 year old thoroughbred who retired from National Hunt racing in March 2012 following a deep flexor tendon injury. He had almost two years off to recuperate and was then loaned to a home where he was competed successfully in ROR (always in the ribbons) and did pleasure rides. We have had him since August 2016 as the previous loaner had to reduce their number of horses.
He is a lovely horse to be around and has impeccable manners in and out of the stable, loves to be groomed and fussed. He has loaded and travelled well in an Ifor 505 and a Ifor 510 with us, both on his own and with company. His teeth and Vaccs are up to date. He has lived in a field of mares with us and was happy with that, he would also be happy with geldings but we don't think he is too keen on having other geldings in with him and the mares as occasionally he would feel the need to see them off.
He has hacked out with us, mostly with another horse and sometimes up to 5 of us, inc noisy children. We also took him on a pleasure ride last autumn which included river crossings, he did nothing more than get a bit fizzy. He has lived on a working farm and is not phased by machinery
He is approx. 16 hands, is a nice compact sort, and was renowned as a brilliant jumper (never fell or pulled up) when he was racing : record fences & hurdles - 26 races / 4 wins / 3 seconds / 3 thirds
He is only available for loan as we do not have the time to give him the work and attention he deserves. He’s not had any lameness since coming sound from his DFT injury and would be great in a PC / RC home or doing ROR with a capable confident teenager or adult with a calm riding manner as he would not be suitable for a novice. His owner would prefer him not to go to a serious jumping/eventing home as there are no guarantees that his leg would withstand the pressure of high level competition but he is more than capable to do the odd hunter trial, etc.
He is currently based in Skelton-On-Ure near Ripon but is owned by the trainer Julia Brooke in Middleham, she is happy for him to go on long term loan to the right home. If anyone is interested please call or email me in the first instance for a chat, and we can progress matters from there.
